Porter Road is a Nashville-based butcher operation that took their whole-animal philosophy online and never looked back. Everything is pasture-raised, humanely handled, and butchered in-house in Tennessee. The dry-aged ribeye program is the most impressive in the direct-to-consumer space — nothing we have tasted from a mail-order source comes close to the depth and complexity of their 21-day dry-aged cuts.
What we liked
- Dry-aged ribeye program is unmatched in the mail-order category
- Whole-animal sourcing means cuts you cannot find at most competitors
- Nashville butchery expertise is evident in every package
- Pasture-raised from verified farms across the midwest and southeast
- Hand-cut, which means real variation in thickness — in a good way
What held it back
- Flat $25 shipping charge applies regardless of order size
- Narrower catalog than multi-protein services
- Subscription model has limited customization vs ButcherBox
Boxes we tested
$52–$78
21-Day Dry-Aged Ribeye
The benchmark product. Concentrated, complex, nutty — everything dry-aging is supposed to deliver. Cook simply, rest well.
$159–$189
Whole Brisket
A serious BBQ project. Beautifully marbled, full-packer cut, excellent bark potential. The best mail-order brisket on the market.
$42–$58
Pasture-Raised NY Strip
Firm, deeply flavored, with excellent bite. Less tender than grain-finished but more interesting by a wide margin.
If dry-aged beef is important to you, Porter Road wins outright. The best mail-order steak we cooked all year came from their dry-aged program. The $25 shipping sting disappears after the first bite.
